BTC Racing team boss Bert Taylor and his drivers Darren Dowling and Chris Stockton have high hopes for the final rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone this Sunday.
The Kent squad made a strong debut at Brands Hatch two weeks ago with its pair of Super 2000-spec Lexus IS200s. Stockton twice came close to a pair of points finishes, while Dowling performed well despite handling problems.
Team principal Taylor said: “We learnt a lot at Brands Hatch and, considering the short amount of time we had with the cars, came away from the weekend feeling that we had achieved our targets.
”We have spent the time in between races working through our list of development needs and are hoping the improvements we make will move us further up the grid.”
Stockton last week said on BTCC.net that he believes the Lexus’s rear-wheel-drive configuration combined with the fact the short Silverstone National circuit – that stages this weekend’s BTCC Finals meeting – has a high-speed lay-out will improve the team’s chances.
Watford-based Dowling added: “The list of problems we had at Brands Hatch, particularly with the oversteer issue I experienced, should be ironed out by the time we get to Silverstone and I believe that the cars will be much more competitive.
“My main aims for the weekend are to qualify further up the grid and finish all three races with improved results.
“We are still looking for sponsors for next year and Brands Hatch and Silverstone have given us an ideal platform to show potential investors that we are out there. We achieved so much in our first outing at Brands and the future of BTC Racing in BTCC is looking bright.”
