Birmingham racer Adam Jones crashed out of last weekends Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship before qualifying had got underway. In a bizarre practise incident Adam’s Air cool Engineering sponsored Lexus IS200 was forced of the track by another competitor in second practice and collided heavily with the safety barrier at over 65mph, tearing a hole in the armco and ripping six supports out of the ground.
After recovering from concussion in the medical centre Adam couldn’t believe what had happened as this was only a free practice session and the cars were entering the main straight at the time of the incident. “It all happened so fast I wasn’t even sure who had hit me”, commented Adam, “but the car was totalled and that put an end to our season which was very disappointing for me and my sponsors”.
Adam has endured some highs and lows during the season and was particularly disappointed with the performances in the Donington and Knockhill races and of course Silverstone, where he felt that the cars potential was not fully exploited. However there is no doubt in his mind where he wants to be next year, and that is consistently in the top ten in the BTCC official results bulletins. Even though Adam was not racing at the season finale he was kept busy autographing posters for official championship sponsors Dunlop Motorsport and is seen here with just a few of the 30,000 plus fans who attended the season finale at Silverstone.
