Halfords flat out with Civic build

Reigning BTCC champion squad Team Halfords remains flat out building its new Honda Civics just six weeks before the new season begins, a report in Auto Express shows today (Wednesday).

The magazine, the BTCC’s media partner and the UK’s best-selling motoring title with 90,000-plus sales a week, was given exclusive behind the scenes access to Team Halfords’ Pershore workshop where the Hondas are currently being prepared.

Matt Neal, title-winner for the past two seasons, admitted the eight-man crew has worked flat out to ready the Civics that will replace the team’s previously all-conquering Honda Integras.

Neal told the magazine: “The guys have only had Christmas Day off since we pushed the button, but it’s still going to be tight. The first bodyshell has now been to the paintshop and the second isn’t far behind.

“If all goes to plan we’re hoping to start testing in the middle of March. Even so, we’re going to need some luck.”
