In a dramatic final lap of the race Tom Onslow-Cole has taken his second win of the day after long-time leader Fabrizio Giovanardi suffered a puncture on the final lap.
Giovanardi, who had led most of the race after getting past Team RAC’s Colin Turkington early on, suffered a high speed puncture coming through Church corner, throwing the win away and 15 points. The Italian managed to limp accross the line in tenth place to pick up a solitary point, but was visibly furious at suffering such a cruel blow with only the chicane at the end of the lap to go.
Colin Turkington came home in second ahead of Matt Neal. At one point Neal had been pressuring Turkington and it looked like possibly becoming a Vauxhall 1-2-3, before Giovanardi slid off the circuit. Darren Turner followed behind Neal in fourth, the two having been off the track at the exit of Allard at high speed earlier in the race.
Jason Plato came home in seventh position after a battling drive from last on the grid following an earlier ride height infringement. Gordon Shedden finished eighth after another drive from lower down the order after the Scot finished 13th as a result of a puncture in the opening race.
There was a safety car period at the start of the race following several incidents, with the Arkas Racing Vauxhall Astra of Martyn Bell in the barriers. Andrew Jordan and Stephen Jelley were involved in an incident on the opening lap, with Tom Chilton spinning all by himself further around the lap.
Andrew Jordan will be starting race three on pole position, followed by Gordon Shedden. Jason Plato will start third with Adam Jones in fourth.
Race Three begins at 16:50 and you can follow all the results and news here at www.btccaction.co.uk.
