Colin Turkington has taken his second victory of the day by a mere 0.1 seconds from fellow BMW racer Mat Jackson. On a drying track the Team RAC driver led the whole race before a late race charge for victory from Jackson threatened to take away the win. Jackson had one of the best drives of the season to come from 18th to second.
Matt Neal put in another consistent drive in the wet conditions, finishing third which also moves him up to second position in the driver’s championship standings. Neal’s drive wasn’t without incident however, with a move on Gordon Shedden early in the race pitching the Scot into the barriers and out. It was a move which will certainly mean a few words are spoken between Matt and his father, the boss of Team Halfords.
Both Motorbase BMW cars of Rob Collard and Steven Kane looked extremely strong during the race, with Collard in third and Kane fourth at one point. However Collard would eventually slip back to fourth after the charging Mat Jackson passed him, with Kane failing to finish the race on the penultimate lap. Despite this it was the best result of the season for the Motorbase Performance team.
Turkington’s win moves him to joint first in the independent driver’s championship, alongside Adam Jones.
The reverse grid for race three sees the top seven finishers of race two reversed, placing Mike Jordan on pole position.
