With victory in the final race of the day Fabrizio Giovanardi has extended his points lead in the championship. Giovanardi took a commanding win over top independent finisher Adam Jones and team-mate Matt Neal.
The Italian took the lead after passing the fast starting BMW of Rob Collard, who looked set for a strong result until contact with Mike Jordan ended his race by removing the front end of the car.
Jones equalled his career-best BTCC finish with the move on Collard, and regained control of the independent drivers championship after Colin Turkington earlier drew level.
Tom Chilton put an impressive drive from 14th on the grid to hold off the charging Mat Jackson, with Gordon Shedden and Tom Onslow-Cole, who came off worst in a last lap battle, just behind.
The race’s major casualties included both SEAT drivers, with Darren Turner being pitched into the gravel following contact with Jackson. Jason Plato’s race was no better, contact at the hairpin with Turkington sending his Leon TDi into the air and dropping him out of contention. He would eventually finish twelfth.
