The nearest non-SEAT driver, VX Racing’s Tom Onslow-Cole, was 0.817 seconds further back in third, whilst championship leader Fabrizio Giovanardi, carrying maximum success ballast, was fifth just behind Colin Turkington.
The session began with all teams opting to use wet tyres, before moving to slicks with ten minutes to go. On a wet circuit the SEATs failed to show the dominance that they had in recent meetings timed sessions, but upon moving to slicks both Turner and Plato rose to the top of the times.
The second BTCC Practice session begins at 1215, whilst qualifying starts at 1600.
