Turner made the most of starting in second place to jump straight into the lead, which he would not lose for the rest of the race. It means that SEAT have shown continued dominance by winning all three race of the day, although they lose ground in both the manufacturers and teams championships.
Rob Collard and the Motorbase Performance team were understandably elated after finishing second following a superb start. It is Collard’s best result of the season and the team’s second podium of the year.
There was also a second podium of the year for John Guest Racing’s Andrew Jordan, who finished in third position. The 19-year old looked like he might lose out through the first series of corners, but held on brilliantly to have a relatively trouble-free run to third.
Fourth place was a less-sure bet and it was Mat Jackson who eventually took the position after a thrilling battle with Fabrizio Giovanardi, Colin Turkington, Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal. Giovanardi was fifth, ahead of Tom Chilton who inherited positions when Neal, Shedden and Turkington had a coming together on lap 21.
Jason Plato had been hoping to battle to a strong finish after randomly drawing ninth on the grid. However his hopes were dashed on lap 7 when contact with Tom Onslow-Cole on the exit of the hairpin put him into the barriers. It means that he gains only 3 points to Fabrizio Giovanardi in the driver’s championship, the Italian having clawed his way to a fifth place finish in an eventful race.
