Team KWR driver Jason Hughes could miss the opening rounds of the season at Brands Hatch this weekend if he is not given the go-ahead by the doctor this week.
The 39-year-old, who has campaigned an MG ZS in the series for the past five seasons, had an operation on his right knee during the winter months and as such has missed several of the pre-season tests. He was not present at the media day or the official Brands Hatch test last week.
“I have an appointment with the doctor and physio on Wednesday, and should know then whether I’ll be able to race this weekend,” Hughes said.
“I knew when I had the operation that it may be a lengthy recovery process. When it was delayed from December until February, I took the chance and had hoped that it would be ready in time for the first rounds.
“It will be such a disappointment if I am told that I cannot race this weekend. I have looked forward to making my return to the series at a track where we are usually very strong in the MG.”
“If I am told I am unable to race at Brands Hatch this weekend, then I am aiming to still be present there,” he added.
He also hinted that the team may receive some more investment in the future. The squad still have a spare seat in their second MG for anyone who can bring sufficient funding to get the car out on track. “There were a selection of companies who wanted to see the benefits of advertising in the BTCC with KWR Sport and I think the level of interest may result in a promising outcome.”
