Team RAC’s Colin Turkington has taken victory in the second of today’s races, winning by a massive 7.2 seconds from Fabrizio Giovanardi. The Northern Irishman once again led every lap of the race after an excellent start, despite carrying 45kg of success ballast. His race win takes him to the top of the championship table for the first time in 2009.

With his third win of the year Turkington is now 8 points clear of rival Matt Neal heading into the final race of the day. Neal minimised the damage by taking fourth position, although he was unable to get by the Racing Silverline Chevrolet of Jason Plato, despite pressuring for most of the race. The two exchanged plenty of contact, with Plato clearly suffering from problems with his car’s dampers. He held on to take third however and his second podium of the day.
Fifth position went to Jonathan Adam, just 0.022 seconds behind Neal as he sought to benefit from the duel going on in front. Andrew Jordan was sixth for VX Racing, whilst James Thompson added to his earlier result of eighth with a seventh in the second race.
Adam Jones was once again in the points for the Cartridge World team and just behind Paul O’Neill made a welcome return to the points after several races of bad luck since his return to the championship. Finishing tenth and collecting his first point of the season was Team Aon’s Alan Morrison as the Ford Focus continues to develop and gather pace.
Mat Jackson was once again one of the unluckiest drivers of the day. After losing a podium position in the opening race when a puncture struck, this time gearbox problems forced him out. Series debutant James Nash was also forced to stop early after only 4 laps. John George also failed to make the start after an engine failure just before the first race.
The third race of the day takes place this afternoon at 5:10pm.
