Jason Plato has set the pace in the second of today’s free practice sessions, setting a time of 1:26.027 to go half a second faster than the top time in the first practice session set by James Thompson. Second fastest was Team RAC’s Colin Turkington with his team-mate Stephen Jelley third fastest.

James Nash was a surprise fourth fastest in his RML-entered Chevrolet Lacetti, only six tenths of a second off former champion Plato’s pace. Racing Silverline driver and RML team-mate Mat Jackson was fifth fastest as the Chevrolet’s continue to look strong around the Yorkshire venue, repeatedly topping the speed trap figures.
Triple winner this season James Thompson was sixth fastest, followed by Andrew Jordan and Paul O’Neill.
Jonathan Adam upped his pace from the earlier practice session to go ninth fastest, with Dan Eaves once again setting the tenth fastest time.
Both VX Racing drivers of Matt Neal and Fabrizio Giovanardi struggled in the session, with Neal completing only three laps due to front splitter and radiator damage picked up when he hit a stray tyre on the exit of the chicane. Giovanardi struggled for pace and could only manage 12th fastest, over a second off the pace.
Local driver Harry Vaulkhard failed to complete the session when he went into the gravel at Clervaux corner.
John George failed to take part in the session as his Team JAG crew hurried to replace a blown engine in his Honda Integra.
Qualifying takes place between 1515 and 1545 this afternoon.
