Tom Chilton Photo Feature

To illustrate the various cars and teams that Tom Chilton has driven over the years btcc:action has compiled the following feature. Photographs supplied by Peter Still Photographic and AE-Photography.

2002 Tom Chilton's debut season in the BTCC saw him set new records as the youngest ever BTCC racer at the time, scoring a podium in his first race. He made an impressive start to a promising touring car year and secured a works drive for the following year.
Season results: 15th overall, 5th in class
2003 A switch to the work's Honda team in the Civic Type-R led to a much improved season than in his debut year, recording fewer retirements and consistently scoring. However his first win eluded him and he once again only managed a single podium finish all season.
Season results: 9th overall
2004 Works support was withdrawn from the Arena Squad running the Honda Civic's so the team had the budget to run only the one car for Chilton. However despite the reduced funding Chilton managed to score two wins and a total of five podiums during a very respectable season which saw him become the youngest BTCC race winner.
Season results: 9th overall, 2 wins

2005 Chilton continued with the Arena team building on the success of the previous year. However he did not contest the opening rounds due to a failed deal to race in the DTM and he also missed the final race meeting yet still managed to finish higher in the standings than he had done in the past.
Season results: 5th overall (missed 6 races), 4 wins
2006 VX Racing signed Chilton to partner Fabrizio Giovanardi in the Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatch. Despite being back in a works team Chilton was outclassed by his much more experienced team mate and did not manage any wins in the season.
Season results: 7th overall
2007 Chilton continued with the work's Vauxhall squad racing the new Vauxhall Vectra S2000 again alongside Fabrizio Giovanardi. Like the previous season he was outclassed by his team mate again, failing to score any wins whilst Giovanardi went on to take the championship.
Season results: 9th overall
2008 After two years with the Works Vauxhall team, Tom Chilton returns to the Honda Civic for 2008 racing for Team Halfords. Compared to the longer Vectra, Chilton has been vocally happier with the shorter wheelbase Civic.
Season results: In Progress
