Jason Hughes began competing in the BTCC back in 2003 when he entered half of the season in a production-class Nissan Primera. His early results weren't impressive as he all too often failed to finish, or even start, many of the races. However for 2004 he stepped up to the main class in the championship after the production class was removed. He bought an ex-works MG ZS and continued racing under the Kartworld Racing banner. He continues to this day in the now ageing MG ZS and one of the true independent drivers in the championship and has along the way scored many strong finishes amongst the bigger budgeted teams.
Advertisment
2006 was a strong year for Hughes that eventually saw him finish 8th out of 22 drivers in the Independents championship. In 2007 Hughes raced as a part of a two-car team for the first time as Fiona Leggate joined the squad in another MG. Against a midfield consisting of John George, Matt Allison, Erkut Kizilirmak, Martyn Bell and Gareth Howell, Jason drove strongly and consistently to again finish well in seventh place in the independent drivers championship.
