Stephen Jelley enters his second season of the BTCC alongside Colin Turkington in 2009. His debut season in 2008 was a testing year for the single-seater convert, with Jelley struggling to match the pace of his more experienced team-mate and recording just 14 points his Turkington's 212. However West surrey Racing have shown faith in Jelley and he has been given the opportunity to continue in 2009, especially after he showed improving pace towards the end of the year including taking pole position at the final meeting at Brands Hatch.

Already in 2009 he has shown a major improvement over his form from 2008. By the mid point of the season Jelley had taken his first ever podium and immediately followed it up by taking two more in the same meeting! He goies into the second half of the season chasing his debut win in the series and will be keen to prove the doubters wrong.

Before joining the BTCC, Jelley had shown impressive pace in single seaters, having competed in the British Formula 3 Championship for four seasons. He was third overall in the highly competitive formula in 2007 and took two wins. In addition he visited the podium ten more times and took the Spencer Charrington Trophy for being the highest placed British driver in the championship. In 2008 he also contested selected rounds of the GP2 Asia championship with limited success.
