Liam McMillan is to be the youngest driver on the grid in 2009 as he makes his debut in the BTCC racing an ex-works SEAT Toledo. 18 year-old McMillan is only in his fourth season of racing as he steps up to the UK's top championship with family-run team Maxtreme. It will be a tough year for the young driver as he competes against some of the biggest names and strongest teams in UK motorsport, with the target being a top ten finish.
On his way to the BTCC McMillan has impressed wherever he went. In his first season of racing in 2006 he dominated the SAXMAX Championship, a series run for 14-17 year olds, taking 9 out of 10 wins on his way to the overall championship. In 2007 he moved straight up to one of the BTCC support championships, the SEAT Cupra Championship. Racing a SEAT Leon for Maxtreme, McMillan finished the season in 12th position out of 28, taking several strong results despite having only just passed his driving test.
In 2008 McMillan raced overseas in the Spanish SEAT Leon Supercopa. Despite having never raced on any of the tracks before McMillan put in some strong performances and finished the season in 12th position, with a number of podium finishes including finishing on the podium in all three races at the Circuit de Catalunya. He also contested 2 races of the SEAT Leon Eurocup, supporting the prestigious World Touring Car Championship.
