Beginning his first BTCC season in 2007 Tom Onslow-Cole became the BTCC's second-youngest starter in its history, behind only Tom Chilton (who made his debut at the age of 17 compared to Onslow-Cole's 19 years). His first season netted him his first ever win, at Snetterton, and a respectable 10th overall in the driver's championship, leading VX Racing to sign Onslow-Cole for the 2008 season.

On his way to the BTCC Onslow-Cole impressed many people, taking the 2006 Elf Renault Clio Cup championship by an impressive 113 points. 10 wins in that season and his consistency and approach were enough to catch the eyes of the BTCC teams and sure enough Team RAC secured his services for the 2007 season. This was finally a step up for Onslow-Cole, who had been campaigining in the Clio Cup since 2003 with Total Control Racing. His carrer in motorsport has been relatively short, with the first steps up from go karting leading him into first T-Cars and then the Renault Clio Cup where his career finally began to gather momentum.
Advertisment
In a debut season that impressed many people, Onslow-Cole took a win at Snetterton and secured 10th in the championship. This was all despite Tom publicly acknowledging his preference for front wheel drive cars, and for 2008 he join VX Racing in a third Vauxhall Vectra to campaign their front wheel drive machine. With team mates both past champions in Fabrizio Giovanardi and Matt Neal, Onslow-Cole certainly has some experienced company for the season.
