James Pickford earned himself the right to become a BTCC racer for the 2005 season by being crowned Champion in the Seat Cupra Cup in 2004 at his second attempt. His 2005 season in the big league proved difficult to begin with, but Pickford persevered to eventually finish 8th in the championship. He came close to podium success several times early in the year and eventually stood on his first BTCC podium at Snetterton. His best results of the year came with three second place finishes at Snetterton, Silverstone and Brands Hatch.
