For 2009...

Team Aon may be a new name to the BTCC with a new car, but the outfit behind the entry isn't. The car is being run by Arena International Motorsport who first entered the BTCC in 1999 and have had experience in running works-level squads in the championship.

Tom Chilton is no stranger to the team either. He first raced for Arena back in 2003 when they ran the works contract for Honda. He continued with the team in 2004 and completed 24 out of 30 races in a highly competitive 2005 season which saw the Honda support dropped from the team. At the end of the year Arena left the BTCC to focus on its sportscar racing operations.

The team first entered the BTCC in 1999 when it ran an independent super touring Renault Laguna for Russell Spence for half a season before being replaced by Will Hoy. The team did not return in 2000 for the final year of super touring. An era of sportscar racing for the outfit began in 2001 when Arena entered the only season of the European Le Mans Series. They entered the Le Mans 24 hours in 2003 with Audi backing. For a time Arena ran its touring car and sportscar programmes alongside each other.

After stepping down from the BTCC at the end of 2005, Arena moved into single seaters for 2006 to represent India in A1GP and for part of the season Greece. The partnership with India continued into the 2007/2008 season before ending. Arena also had a single season in British F3 in 2007 for Tom Chilton's brother, Max.

2009 will be the fifth season of BTCC for Arena and marks a return to the championship with which it has had the most success. Pre-season testing has left Chilton happy with the performance of the car, although there will be much development work to be done during the season to run amongst the front of a grid of well-developed rivals.
