Disappointing day for Airwaves BMW

For 2009...

Motorbase, known as Airwaves BMW for 2009, start the season with the same cars they used the previous year for the first time since their entry into the BTCC. The benefits could prove to be huge as the team anticipates its strongest season to date.

Sticking with the BMW 320si's that made the team the highest scoring in the second half of 2008 means that the team begin the season with plenty of set-up data. Motorbase said that in 2008 at each circuit they went to they had to continually work out how to set the car up, so having this data at the start of 2009 will be a real bonus.

Reigning two-time SEAT Cupra champion Jonathan Adam has finally made the graduation to touring cars with Airwaves, and he partners BTCC veteran Rob Collard. One of last season's top rookies, Steven Kane, has therefore left the team and been unable to find a seat elsewhere.

During the winter the team has tested several experienced drivers in its 320, including former BTCC champions Tim Harvey and James Thompson. Both will undoubtedly have brought a wealth of set-up knowledge to the team as it looks to take its first win in 2009.

Motorbase will also be competing in the highly competitive BTCC-supporting Porsche Carrera Cup in 2009, as it tackles one of its most ambitious years to-date in its relatively short history. The team first graduated to the BTCC in 2006 when it ran David Pinkney for the season. A brief outing with a SEAT Toledo at the end of the year was preparation for 2007, which was a mixed second season punctuated by bad luck and driver changes. 2008 brought much needed stability and pace with a pair of BMW's and in 2009 the team will finally hope to prove itself as a front running force by winning its first race.
