RUN by Triple Eight Race Engineering, the team was set up in 1997 to build and race the Vauxhall works team. At the hight of the supertouring era with large grids of works outfits the team proved successful, winning numerous times. However the outright championship eluded the drivers and it wasn't until the new dawn of the BTCC that the team shone. With the collapse of super touring at the end of the 2000 season, during which Vauxhall was one of only three manufacturers, the BTCC adopted completely new regulations which meant building a new car. The team chose to use the Vauxhall Astra Coupe as its basis, and in the first season of the new regulations the Astra Coupe dominated, winning all except one race and taking Jason Plato to the drivers championship for Vauxhall.

Through the next three years Vauxhall remained the team to beat as Triple Eight developed and honed the car further. Drivers titles for James Thompson and Yvan Muller followed, as well as numerous manufacturers and teams titles. Indeed, the team achieved taking all three of the championship trophies it was eligible for in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. For 2005, with the old Astra Coupe being replaced by a new model, the team developed the Astra Sport Hatch to the current BTC Touring regulations. This was despite new manufacturers to the series such as Seat opting to build to the emerging, WTCC-class, Super 200 regulations.
The Astra Sport Hatch was not as immediately quick as its predecessor and lost the drivers and teams championships to Team Dynamics who had been running the impressive Honda Integra. Running the Astra Sport Hatch again in 2006 with new signing of multiple ETCC champion Fabrizio Giovanardi meant the team had high hopes of reclaiming the lost trophies, but with development looking towards the S2000 regulation change for 2007 and Team Dynamics remaining strong, VX Racing took no championship titles in 2006 and lost the Manufacturers crown to Seat.
| Building a new car once again for 2007, the team were instantly on the pace in the new Vectra. Giovanardi remained with the team and through a fiercely competitive season emerged as the Drivers champion, whilst VX Racing took the Manufacturer's trophy home again, although rivals Seat pipped the team to the Team's championship honours by just 25 points over 30 races. | ||||
